Post 6: Subcultures

Today i'm going to talk about the subcultures that are present in Ireland.  This culture is full of traditions and hobbies, and consequently there are many subcultures present in this country.

Some of this subcultures of groups are:

1. The pub subculture:

The pub subculture permeates Irish society, across all cultural divides. The term refers to the Irish habit of frequenting public houses (pubs) or bars. Typically, pubs are important meeting places, where people can get together and meet their neighbours and friends in a relaxed atmosphere, similar to the café cultures of other countries. The traditional pub culture goes beyond just drinking alcohol, although there is a recognised problem with excessive drinking in Ireland. The people who attend these venues and consider themselves part of this subculture advocate for these buildings to be proclaimed heritage sites of Ireland and attend these venues on a regular basis to share with friends and family.

2. The sports fans:

Swimming, golf, aerobics, football, cycling, Gaelic football and snooker are the sports activities with the highest levels of participation. Football is the most popular sport among the national teams. In Ireland, many sports, such as rugby, Gaelic football and hurling, are organised on an all-island basis, with a single team representing the island of Ireland in international competitions.  This subculture is a big part of the tradition of Ireland, because for this reasons a lot of people that in the daily life have many differents interest joins to support a particular team or their country's national team.

Sport on Ireland is popular. A wide variety of sports are played across the island, the most popular being Gaelic football, hurling, football, rugby and hockey. Gaelic football is the most popular sport in Ireland in terms of match attendance and community participation, accounting for 34% of total sporting attendances in the Republic of Ireland, followed by hurling (23%), football (16%) and rugby (8%).
